SUMMARY

Overview. Today’s Internet. Internet of Things. Information-Centric Networks. Software-Defined Networking.

OBJECTIVES

Enabling students to understand and analyze the fundamental properties of ground-breaking novel network architectures and related applications, and how they compare with the state-of-the-art in Internet technology.

PROGRAM

Overview, including critical assessment of Internet and the evolution of its technology in the past 30 years. Long-term research to address grand scientific challenges on computer networks: “Future Internet”.
Internet of Things. Introduction. Enabling technologies. Architectures. Mechanisms. Applications. Challenges.
Software-Defined Networking. Introduction. Enabling technologies. Architectures. Mechanisms. Applications. Challenges.
Information-Centric Networks. Introduction. Enabling technologies. Architectures. Mechanisms. Applications. Challenges.

EVALUATION

Evaluation will be based on the following criteria: (a) attendance and participation in discussions; (b) presentation of papers and critical analysis of colleagues’ presentations; (c) a written research proposal. There are no examinations, but the student is expected to read a good number of papers, mainly beyond class hours.
