Applying to the PhD Program

Application

Applications will be received through the PPGC Registration System, which can be accessed in the following address: https://inf.ufrgs.br/ppgc/applying-en. If you need assistance using the system, please send a message to .

If you have applied to PPGC in the past, and wish to reuse the information previously provided, please send a message to no later than 2 days before the application deadline.

Selection process

The selection is based on an analysis of the documentation (see list below), the research plan, and an interview with the candidate. Interviews with foreign students can be arranged over a video call or by phone.

It is strongly recommended that candidates get in touch with potential supervisors in order to discuss about the availability for supervision and also to write a research plan to be submited with the application.

The MSc degree is NOT a requirement for admission to the PhD program. Candidates with a BSc degree only, with or without an ongoing MSc, but who demonstrate strong academic performance and motivation for research are encouraged to apply.

Photocopy of the BSc diploma
Photocopy of the MSc diploma, when applicable
BSc Academic Records
MSc Academic Records, when applicable
Curriculum Vitae in CNPq Lattes format (recommended) or according to the template below
3x4cm Photo
Photocopy of Identity Card and CPF (for Brazilians) or Passport (for non-residents)
Research plan prepared in agreement with the intended supervisor
Two recommendation letters provided by professors or active researchers (both letters are requested and entered through the Application System). Once the application has been processed, the recommenders (whose e-mail addresses were informed by the applicant) will be contacted with instructions on how to submit the letters through the Application System.

  • Professional experience (Indicate the jobs and functions past and present, specifying: name of the job post, institution and duration, detailing the tasks performed). Highlight experience in research activities
  • Professional/Scientific memberships (Indicate the organizations of which you are a member, with institution name, type of involvement and country)
  • Prizes and awards (Indicate for each prize and distinction received in science and tecnology, prize name, conceding institution and date)
  • Participation in scientific events (Indicate the name of the activity, sponsoring institution, type of participation and duration)
  • Thesis and works presented (Indicate the name of the thesis or work, level, institution and date)
  • Publications (to the most significative papers, indicate other authors, title, periodic, volume, pages and year)
