Life thread:
Anderson was born in the city of Caxias
do Sul, state of Rio Grande do Sul,
Brazil, in January 22nd, 1977.
Besides Brazilian, he also have the Italian citizenship.
In 1994, at age 17 he started his undergraduate studies in Computer
Science at the University of Caxias do Sul.
He spent half of his college period as an undergraduate assistant
working in the Asimov research project, funded by CNPq. Graduated Bachelor in Computer
Science in August 1998, he had a 10 months experience in the industry
as a programmer and analyst, first at the N&L software house, and then at
Javabr Ltd., a company he founded with university colleagues, than he
left to focus on his master studies. The kernel of the company has
grown and became JExperts.
His master studies
in Computer Science, focused on Computer Graphics, were taken in the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul,
in Porto Alegre,
the
capital of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. During the master
period, he worked in the Virtual
Patients (VPat) research project, financed by CAPES and CNPq. He graduated a Master in
Computer Science in August 2001.
He moved to Lausanne, Switzerland
in September
of the same year, where he started working as a PhD cantidate and
research assistant with professor Daniel
Thalmann in the LIG of EPFL, now VRlab.
His activities were all around the project CO-ME
(Computer-Aided and Image Guided Medical Inteventions) funded by the SNF. He defended his
doctoral thesis in November of 2005 and and then spent 14 months as a
postdoctoral research
associate in the ACoR lab of RPI. He is now back with the Department of Applied
Informatics of the Federal
University of Rio Grande do Sul as an invited postdoctoral
collaborator.
