However there is no consensus about the effectiveness and validity of frequency-domain vs. time-domain methods. Traditional frequency-domain specifications usually dictate the design of frequency-measurement circuits on chip, whose cost is often not justifiable. Recent time-domain methods are making significant advances but have not convinced designers that they are an acceptable substitute. This presentation will review recent advances in both frequency-domain and time-domain measurements, the challenges at the system level, and one interesting technique that combines measurements in both domains.
