Application layer. Transport layer. Network layer. Link layer and Local Area Networks. Wireless and mobile networks.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Objectives<br \/>\n<\/strong>Presenting\u00a0 fundamental\u00a0 concepts, techniques\u00a0 and\u00a0 protocols \u2013 from\u00a0 the\u00a0 application\u00a0 layer down\u00a0 to\u00a0 the\u00a0 link\u00a0 layer \u2013 on\u00a0 top\u00a0 of\u00a0 which\u00a0 modern\u00a0 computer\u00a0 networks,\u00a0 and\u00a0 particularly\u00a0 the Internet, work. Emphasis will be given to more advanced topics, which are only partially (or not) covered by CS undergraduate-level courses.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Program<br \/>\n<\/strong>Link layer<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0 Link-layer services and technologies<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Link virtualization: MPLS, traffic engineering and virtual private networks<\/li>\n<li>Wireless and mobile networks<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Network layer<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>IPv6 and transition efforts from IPv4 to IPv6<\/li>\n<li>Routing in the Internet: Inter-AS routing and routing architectures<\/li>\n<li>Future Internet, Software-Defined Networks, and Network Function Virtualization<\/li>\n<li>Quality of Service<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Transport layer<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Connection-Oriented Transport: TCP<\/li>\n<li>Principles of congestion control<\/li>\n<li>TCP congestion control and its \u201cflavors\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Application layer<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>HTTP 2.0<\/li>\n<li>Multimedia networking, including VoIP, streaming and interactive applications<\/li>\n<li>Peer-to-Peer applications<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Evaluation<\/strong><br \/>\nEvaluation will be based on the following criteria: attendance and participation in discussions (10%), homework assignments (10%), an individual student project (40%), and a final exam (40%).
