Anderson Maciel
Very short bio

Anderson Maciel is an associate professor with the Institute of Informatics, Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). He obtained his PhD in Computer Science from the EPFL, Switzerland, in 2005. His research focus is on virtual reality, augmented reality, immersive and situated visualization, haptic and 3D interaction, medical simulators and soft tissues animation.

Anderson Maciel is an associate professor with the Institute of Informatics, Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Brazil, and a visiting associate professor with the Técnico, Lisbon (2021). He holds a Ph.D. from EPFL, Switzerland (2005) and was a postdoctoral researcher with the Rensselaser Polytechnic Institute RPI, USA (2007). He has experience on Graphics and Interaction, conducting research in Computer Graphics, VR/AR/MR, computer-based medical applications, 3D user interfaces, Haptics and interactive anatomy simulation. Prof. Maciel has published over a hundred peer-reviewed research papers, advises Ph.D. and M.Sc. students, coordinates nationally and internationally funded R&D projects. Maciel is associate editor of the journal of Computer Animation and Virtual Worlds and member of the review board of top journals such as TVCG, C&G, CG&A, ToH, TVC. He was general chair of the Symposium on Virtual and Augmented Reality twice (2016 and 2021) and is a member of the PC of the IEEE VR and a number of other important events. He is also member of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the IEEE Computer Society Technical Committee on Visualization and Graphics, the IEEE Haptics Technical Committee and the Brazilian Computer Society (SBC).
