Panel: Initiatives and applications for Health and education in the Brazilian Digital TV

Digital television is now a reality in Brazil and abroad, and broadcasters are already routinely generating and transmitting signals in High Definition (HD). Transmission of Digital TV applications and the effective use of Interactivity, however, are still in the process of consolidation. The international standardization of Ginga was a step in that direction.

This panel seeks to present government initiatives to use the DTV in the areas of health, education, and as projects and applications within those areas, and examples of implementation at TV stations.

AThe lectures will cover from the issue of standardization, metadata, technological means of interaction via Ginga standard, existing applications, deployment and initiatives in areas like health and education.



Confirmed speakers:


a) Luiz Fernando Gomes Soares (PUC-RJ)

Group Leader creator of NCL and Ginga-NCL pattern of the Brazilian Digital TV and the first international standard, with full national technology, ITU-T Services IPTV (2009). ASSESPRO Award 2008 - Personality of the Year in the category 'Academia' (2008). Innovative Research - Scientists of Our State (FAPERJ, 2005). Newton Faller Award, the Brazilian Society of Computing (2006).

b) Marco Munhoz (Dataprev)

Digital TV Project Manager - Social, of Dataprev (award for best product in the innovation contest Brazilian Society of Television Engineering (Pool), São Paulo, 2010), which provides support services welfare.

c) Rafael Sotelo (Universidad de Montevideo)

Director of the Department of Information Technology and Communications, UM. His thesis Doctoral won First Place Award Competition of the National Academy of Engineering (2010). Eighteen years of work in broadcast TV and cable TV. Within the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining Digital TV.

d) Sady Ros (SBT)

Technical Manager of SBT (Sistema Brasileiro de Televisão), responsible for technology management and operations in RS. Board Member of the SET (Society of Television Engineering), co-participant of the study and decision choice SBTVD today ISDB. Led the implementation process of the SBT-DTV in Porto Alegre.

e) Valter Roesler (UFRGS)

laboratory leader of PRAV (Audio and Video Projects) – www.inf.ufrgs.br/prav. General Coordinator of TVDMED FINEP project (Customization of a DTV equipment to improve the medical treatment in telemedicine). General Coordinator of the project FINEP SIM (Smart Room Surgical). Is coordinating a project in the initial phase of home care through digital TV.
