Call for Papers – WTDO 2023

The 7th Doctoral and Masters Consortium on Ontologies (WTDO 2023) is a track of the 16th Seminar on Ontology Research in Brazil (ONTOBRAS 2023) that offers an opportunity for Master and Doctoral students working in the area of Ontologies to discuss their research proposals with experts, receive feedback on methodological issues, and develop a contact network with the research community.

WTDO 2023 will be held in person between August 28 and September 01, 2023, at the University of Brasilia – Brasilia, Brazil.

This year, WTDO and ONTOBRAS will be held with the 14th International Conference on Biomedical Ontology (ICBO 2023). Master and Doctoral level students from the ICBO community are also welcome to join this call to have feedback from experts in the applied ontologies community.

Submission Guidelines

MSc and Ph.D. students must include two documents in their submissions:

  • a short paper describing their research proposal;
  • a filled-in research sheet, provided in this call, summarizing different details of the research proposal.

Both documents must be submitted to WTDO as a single PDF file where the two first pages are the filled-in research sheet, and the following pages are the short paper.

In the research sheet, provided through the link below, the student must provide specific information about the research proposal, including the involved people, their contact information, research goals, and methodology.

In the short paper, the student must describe the contents of the research proposal. The student must be the first author, while their supervisors should follow as co-authors.

We call the attention of returning authors (supervisors) to the new template and size limits. The short paper must be between 5 and 6 pages long excluding references. The short paper must follow the CEUR-ART Template, single column.

Templates for Microsoft Office Word, Open Office, and LaTeX can be downloaded at: https://ceur-ws.org/Vol-XXX/CEURART.zip

The LaTeX template is also directly available on Overleaf through the following link: https://www.overleaf.com/read/gwhxnqcghhdt

Submissions should be written in ENGLISH (preferred) or PORTUGUESE. We strongly encourage students to submit their research proposals in ENGLISH as it enables the exchange of academic knowledge with a greater audience and allows for feedback from members of the international community. Submissions in PORTUGUESE must have an abstract and keywords in ENGLISH.

Submissions to WTDO must be made via Easychair.

https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=wtdo2023

WTDO does not accept submissions already published or under review elsewhere, including ONTOBRAS and ICBO. Submissions related to dissertations and thesis with defense scheduled before the event shall not be considered.

In addition, the student’s supervisor should send an email to wtdo2023@easychair.org acknowledging and agreeing with the submission of the work to WTDO 2023.

Review

All valid submissions will be reviewed by the ONTOBRAS steering committee. Each submission will be reviewed for

  • research originality;
  • clarity and relevance of the proposal;
  • analysis of the state of the art and related works;
  • adequacy of the selected research method;
  • text quality;
  • the potential of advancing ontology-related research areas;
  • the potential benefit of the feedback in contributing to research conclusion.

Accepted Submissions

Accepted submissions must be presented in person by the student. A senior member of the research community will be invited to provide feedback on the presentation and the research proposal. Details on the structure of presentations shall be provided ahead of the workshop.

The short papers of these submissions shall be published in the proceedings of ONTOBRAS 2023 at CEUR-WS, as part of the IAOA Series. Publication of accepted papers requires registration of the author at ONTOBRAS, as well as the presentation of the work during the WTDO track. The proceedings of recent editions of ONTOBRAS are available through the links below:

The results of evaluations (considering both submission and presentation) will serve as a basis for the selection of the 2 best papers (1 at the master level and 1 at the doctoral level) of WTDO 2023. The best papers will be awarded a certificate and announced at the event’s closing ceremony.
