We are the Neurocognition and Natural Language Processing research lab, part of the Artificial Intelligence group at the Institute of Informatics of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Brazil. We work in the intersection of the exciting fields of cognition, neuroscience and computational linguistics, trying to build systems and models for the integration of human languages into computers.

Our group is headed by Aline Villavicencio and Marco Idiart.

Research interests

Our general research interests are in the fields of neurosciences, cognition and language. We are particularly interested in:

  • Biologically inspired computational models of brain structures
  • Computational cognitive models of language acquisition and evolution
  • Computational methods of lexical acquisition
  • Corpus-based natural language processing
  • Multiword expressions identification and treatment
  • Applications in human language technology
