This Symposium explores emerging trends and novel ideas and concepts in the area of VLSI. The Symposium covers a range of topics: from VLSI circuits, systems and design methods to system level design and system-on-chip issues, to bringing VLSI experience to new areas and technologies like nano- and molecular devices, MEMS, and quantum computing. Future design methodologies will also be one of the key topics at the workshop, as well as new CAD tools to support them. Over almost two decades the symposium has been an unique forum promoting multidisciplinary research and new visionary approaches in the area of VLSI. The Symposium is bringing together leading scientists and researchers from academia and industry. The papers from this symposium have been published as the special issues of top archival journals. This fact indicates a very high quality of the symposium papers, and we are determined to keep a strong emphasis on this critical aspect of any conference. The symposium proceedings are published by IEEE Computer Society Press.
Several leading scientist from newly emerging areas of nanoelectronics, MEMS and molecular, biological and quantum computing will be invited speakers at the symposium. The Symposium has established a reputation in bringing well-known international scientists as invited speakers, and this trend will continue.

SBCCI 2013

Symposium on Integrated Circuits and Systems Design
Curitiba - Brazil
September 2 to 6, 2013

Several members of the Rio Grande do Sul Chapter are helping in the organization of SBCCI 2013 in Curitiba.
OBS: The first SBCCI was organized in 1983, at Porto Alegre.

SBCCI is an international forum dedicated to integrated circuits and systems design, test and CAD, held annually in Brazil. The 26th SBCCI will take place at Curitiba, Brazil. The goal of the symposium is to bring together researchers in the areas of computer-aided design, design and test of integrated circuits and systems. The scope of the symposium includes technical sessions, tutorials and panels, as well as exhibition and working group meetings. The best papers presented at the symposium will be invited to resubmit an extended version to be considered for publication at the IEEE Design & Test and at the JICS - Journal of Integrated Circuits and Systems.

Title: Practical Advances and Applications of Asynchronous Design
Abstract: As we continue to push for lower-power and lower supply voltages, there is a growing need for resilient circuits which can accommodate increasing variability in the characteristics of both transistors and wires. Asynchronous circuits have long been an intriguing potential solution to address this issue due to their natural ability to adapt to variations. However, the asynchronous circuit overhead and the lack of CAD tools have been stumbling blocks for their wide spread adoption. This talk reviews some of the styles of asynchronous design and discusses their potential advantages and challenges for both network on chip and core logic applications. We then review one promising asynchronous design flow called Proteus which was commercialized out of USC research via TimeLess Design Automation and used on Intel's latest 10G Ethernet Switch Chip. This flow enables design from high-level specifications using a combination of standard simulation, synthesis, and physical design tools with a small set of specific algorithms for performance and power optimization of asynchronous circuits.
