Abstract:
Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) are emerging as the next frontier in computing, promising a paradigm shift in how we interact with technology and access information. The integration of on-device Artificial Intelligence (AI) is paramount, enabling real-time, privacy-centric, and resource-efficient data processing directly on the device, thereby enhancing the overall user experience. However, the form factor of AR and VR devices presents challenges related to thermal budget and industrial design constraints. Designing AI hardware for AR/VR devices demands a delicate balance between processing power and energy efficiency to ensure optimal performance within limited power constraints. Furthermore, Machine learning model and Software development need to be cognizant of Hardware compute capabilities, memory and power capacity, and on-chip interconnect bandwidth of the hardware. Hardware-software co-design is imperative to create efficient, optimized, and well-integrated on-device AI solutions for AR and VR devices.

Short CV:
Mohit Mittal holds the position of Senior Manager in Artificial Intelligence (AI) Hardware at Meta Platforms. At Meta, he leads a team of Machine Learning architects and hardware engineers, focusing on the development of AI Hardware Accelerators for the AR and VR market. Prior to joining Meta, Mohit served at Microsoft as a Senior Hardware Architect and Technical Lead, spearheading the development of AI Training Hardware solutions for Microsoft Azure Cloud. With extensive work experience spanning over 18 years, he has occupied various senior technical leadership roles across startups and multinational corporations in both India and the USA. His passion lies in innovating and crafting cutting-edge technologies in the field of Semiconductors, AR/VR, Cloud Computing, and Artificial Intelligence.
