INF Realiza Seminário com Prof. Mario Inostroza-Ponta no dia 28/01

No próximo  dia 28/01 (quinta-feira), às 14h, na Sala 102 (Prédio 43424 – ao lado do CEI), será realizado o seminário com o Prof. Mario Inostroza-Ponta, da Universidad de Santiago de Chile.

 Título:

Unsupervised analysis of gene expression data: a graph and combinatorial optimization approach

 Summary:

The analysis of gene expression data is normally performed using supervised methods, that requires the use of expert information. This information is normally passed using parameters that affect directly the results, making this a critical step in the process of analysis.

An alternative is the use of unsupervised methods, which based their results only in the data provided. In this talk, two unsupervised methods are presented: a graph clustering algorithm and a grid layout algorithm based on QAP. This talk corresponds to a summary of my doctoral studies.

 Bio:

Mario Inostroza-Ponta is a Professor at the Universidad de Santiago de Chile. He got his Master degree from the same university in 2000. Recently he finished his PhD (Computer Science) studies at the University of Newcastle, Australia (2008). His areas of interest are bioinformatic, parallel and distributed computing, graphs, combinatorial optimization and metaheuristics.
