Mini-curso: Machine Translation: theory and practice

O grupo de PLN do Instituto de Informática estará recebendo nos dias 24 e 27/10 a visita dos professores Christian Boitet (Univ. Joseph Fourier – Grenoble I) e Carlos Ramisch (Aix Marseille Univ.) Na ocasião, além de participarem do workshop CAMELEON dia 24/10, eles oferecerão um minicurso sobre tradução automática. O curso, ministrado em inglês, é aberto a todos os membros da comunidade científica, e ocorrerá no dia 27/10, das 13h:30min às 17h, na Sala 102, prédio 43413(67), do INF.

Have you ever used Google’s famous translation system? Have you ever wondered how Google Translate works?

This mini-course is addressed at all students and researchers who want to know more about how computers can translate text from one language into another. It will feature two parts: a first historical and theoretical overview on MT systems in general, and a second practical session where the students will train a statistical MT system from scratch, using the Moses toolkit.

 

Part 1: History and architectures of MT systems (linguistic, computational, operational)
