Touristic Attractions


There are at least two touristic cities near to Porto Alegre that you should know during your visit to Brazil to participate of IMS3TW 2014. Check it out:

GRAMADO

The city of Gramado, located in the Serra Gaúcha region, is one of the most visited cities in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. It attracts thousands of tourists of all over Brazil and abroad every year. Its flowery streets show a lot of the German and Italian culture, present in the architecture, gastronomy and customs. The city is 115km away from the capital Porto Alegre.

Gramado is also one of the cities of a scenic route called Rota Romântica, or romantic route. It is a touristic route that runs across 14 german colonized cities in the mountainous region of Serra Gaúcha. Gramado has a great tourist infrastructure, and offers many options of hotels, inns, restaurants, touristic attractions and tours. For the ones who like shopping, Gramado is a good city to find artisanal chocolate, furnishings, knitting, handicraft, leather goods and others.

St. Peter Church (Igreja São Pedro) – This church is located in the heart of Gramado. It was opened in 1942 and has a tower of 46m height.
Black lake (Lago Negro) - It's a lake built by Leopoldo Rosenfeldt after a fire destroyed the local woods. He built the lake and decorated its riverside with trees from the Black Forest, in Germany. Around the lake people can walk or ride bikes through flowery sidewalks.
Knorr Park (Parque Knorr) – The Knorr Park is a historic park dated from 1940. It has the first Bavarian house built in that region. Today the park has a lot of attractions related to Christmas time. FOZ DO IGUAÇU

Foz do Iguaçu is a city located in the Brazilian state of Paraná. It is a city worldwide known due to its natural wonders, specially its jungles and the Iguaçu Falls, comprising just short of almost 300 individual waterfalls. The city is located in the boarder of Brazil with Argentina and Paraguay.

Foz do Iguaçu is located 643km away from the capital of Paraná, the city of Curitiba. The road distance from Porto Alegre is about 986km, but it is possible to travel from Porto Alegre with a daily direct flight operated by Azul Airlines. Iguaçu Falls (Cataratas do Iguaçu) – The Iguaçu Falls are a set of 275 waterfalls in the Iguaçu River. The boundary of the falls is shared between Brazil (Parque Nacional do Iguaçu) and Argentina (Parque Nacional Iguazu). Three Boarders Landmark (Marco das Três Fronteiras) – The Three Boarders Landmark is obelisk that symbolically demarcate the borders of Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay and represents the sovereignty of the three nations. The Brazilian obelisk is located in the city of Foz do Iguaçu.
Bird Park (Parque das Aves) – The Bird Park is an opportunity to be in touch with more than 1020 birds from about 150 different species. There are 16.5 hectares of Atlantic Forest kept to form the best habitat to the animals. http://www.parquedasaves.com.br/
Itaipu Dam (Usina Hidrelétrica de Itaipu) – It's a hydroelectric dam on the Paraná River in the boarder of Brazil and Paraguay. It was built by the two countries and has become a popular center for visitors. It's the largest powerhouse in the world. https://www.itaipu.gov.br/
