Professor Gaspary receives international award

Professor Luciano Gaspary receives the prestigious Dan Stokesberry Award for his research contributions to the area of Network and Service Management, being honored during the IEEE/IFIP Network Operations and Management Symposium (NOMS 2023).

Luciano Gaspary, full professor at the Institute of Informatics from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (INF-UFRGS), was honored with the prestigious Dan Stokesberry Award during the IEEE/IFIP Network Operations and Management Symposium (NOMS 2023), held in Miami. The award, granted every two years by the Technical Committee on Network Operation and Management (CNOM) of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), recognizes the researcher who has made significant technical contributions to developing the field of Network and Service Management.

Gaspary, after almost 25 years dedicated to research in this area, received the award for his innovative work. The Dan Stokesberry Award is given in memory of Dan Stokesberry, General Chair of IM’97 (International Symposium on Integrated Network Management). The award highlights the importance of technical contributions to the growth of this field of study.

In his acceptance speech, Professor Gaspary expressed his gratitude for his education, the brilliant students and collaborators with whom he had the opportunity to work, his colleagues at the Institute of Informatics, and his family. He also expressed his commitment to remain contributing to the development of the field with hard work and dedication. “For me, it’s a huge pleasure receiving this award! I attribute it to my education, the brilliant students and collaborators with whom I had the opportunity to work, fellow professors and technicians at INF-UFRGS, and my family, from whom I have always received unconditional support. I am very grateful to everyone! I hope to keep working diligently for developing the area”, highlighted Gaspary.

The award received by Luciano Gaspary reinforces the excellence of research carried out in Brazil in the area of Network Management. His notable technical contribution further strengthened the country’s image as an important hub of knowledge and innovation in this discipline. The award also encourages the continuation of scientific progress in this area, driving the search for ever more efficient and sophisticated solutions for managing computer networks.
